From the introduction in Psy Fi One: "All mad scientist stories must have two ingredients. The level of scientific discovery has to extend beyond existing knowledge, and the result has to be dramatic and at least a bit bizarre. Without both elements the story becomes mundane ... Like Dr. Frankenstein, Dr. Carroad unwittingly releases powerful and unknown forces in which creation becomes destruction. This process alone with a 'socko' ending and some startling ideas about fate and determinism, come together in a story that lingers on for a long time in one's mind—like the 'groovy' melody of a familiar record...".
