FROM
THE EDITOR'S PREFACE:
The first three volumes in the Worlds
of Philip José Farmer series each focused on
one unique facet of Farmer’s diverse career. Volume one, subtitled Protean Dimensions, examined Farmer's
fondness for blurring genre boundaries. Volume two, subtitled Of Dust and Soul, studied his interest in the
softer sciences and humanities. Volume three, subtitled Portraits of a Trickster, looked at his love of
the trickster archetype in literature and mythology, as well as Farmer himself in the role of the trickster.
The volume at hand, Voyages to Strange Days, explores what is perhaps the most obvious, and yet somehow also the most overlooked, aspect of Philip
José Farmer's career: his work as a "classic" science fiction author.
In this volume, we will get a glimpse into the life of a science
fiction writer and sample some of his "classic" science fiction.
